The salary range for Associate Professor is A$116K to A$127K per year,
depending on qualifications and experience (plus 17% employer
superannuation, plus leave loading).
As one of Australia's leading research and teaching universities, UNSW is
well placed to build on its significant strengths in the creative and
performing arts and in media and communication. The School of English,
Media and the Performing Arts (EMPA), in the Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences, brings together expertise in scholarship and research, with
professional and creative practice. It hosts the Creative Practice and
Research Unit, and collaborates with the Australia Ensemble and with the
UNSW Journalism and Media Research Centre. EMPA teaches programs at
undergraduate and postgraduate level in disciplines including Creative
Writing, Dance, English, Film, Journalism, Media, Music, PR and Advertising,
and Theatre and Performance Studies.
As part of its planned growth, the School is now seeking to appoint an
Associate Professor (Level D) in Music, with a successful background in
music composition and/or scholarship and an outstanding capacity to provide
leadership in the Music program. The appointee will become Program Convenor
in Music for an initial period of three years. The appointee will also be
expected to contribute to teaching in relevant music courses, undertake
postgraduate supervision, participate in the creative and scholarly life of
a busy and integrated music program, and maintain and develop excellence in
their own research area and/or creative practice.
Working in conjunction with the Head and other staff of the School, a key
role for the appointee will be to instigate and lead curriculum renewal for
the music program at UNSW and especially for the Bachelor of Music degree.
The position is a full time, continuing appointment and is available from
January 2011.
